Possible Soldier and Pyro Changes

Tuesday 15 January 2008 | Post A Comment

According to this post, it seems as though Valve's Robin Walker has spilled the beans on some upcoming changes to the Pyro and Soldier classes in TF2!

"Thanks for all the feedback, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the game. We are indeed investigating Soldier changes, and one of the changes we're trying out is focused on making Soldiers a little more careful firing their rockets at point blank targets.

As for the Pyro scoring, we have a minor tweak coming down the pipe. He's going to get a small amount of points for every enemy he ignites. This should reward you for those moments where you drop into the middle of an enemy pack and light them all up, hurting them all and disrupting their plans, but not managing to actually kill them."

Major Game Shift In 2 Months

Friday 11 January 2008 | Post A Comment

Get ready for some big changes to the Team Fortress 2 game you have come to know and love. Valve's Robin Walker has verified that there will be 2 new maps released for the PC version in the next 2 months, emphasizing more on a new arena and vertical game play. As for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, it remains unclear whether the new updates will make it to these platforms. You can check out Robin's full statement below, and keep checking back for more on this and all updates pertaining to Team Fortress 2.

""Our estimate is that both these maps should be out within the next 2 months," Valve employee Robin Walker told Shacknews. "We expect to ship other new content before that."

That other content includes the forthcoming Medic achievement pack, which will add several new achievements for the Medic as well as a significant gameplay tweak for the class.

"It's a large scale modification to the core of the game," Walker hinted. "It'll debut in a limited fashion through the Medic first, but it'll be affecting all classes eventually."

"We're really looking forward to the community reaction," he continued. "We're really excited about where TF2 will be going over the next year."

Valve Acquires Turtle Rock Studios

Thursday 10 January 2008 | Post A Comment

Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Counter-Strike: Source, Condition Zero, and the upcoming and highly anticipated title Left 4 Dead, has been acquired by Valve. Here is there official press release statement.

"Half Life developer Valve has announced that it has acquired Orange County-based developer Turtle Rock Studios, currently working on the forthcoming Source-engine multiplayer zombie-slaying action title Left 4 Dead.

Valve president Gabe Newell called the acquisition "an easy decision" based on the long-standing relationship between the two. Turtle Rock previously has collaborated with Valve on a number of Counter-Strike projects, including the game's Xbox port.

Newell also said that the new internal studio would give Valve "a base from which to expand our development activities in the Los Angeles area."

Said Turtle Rock founder Michael Booth, "Valve has had great success bringing in projects and teams such as Team Fortress and Portal. As I spent time working and talking with the creators of those products over the past several years, it became clear that this was the right next step for myself, my colleagues at Turtle Rock, our customers, and our products. We are excited to be a part of such a visionary and forward-thinking company."

Guide: How To PWN At TF2

Thursday 27 December 2007 | Post A Comment

CVG has released a new Team Fortress 2 guide, properly titled "How To PWN At Team Fortress 2". They list 12 key tips and tricks that will hopefully help your game. The list includes tips such as how binding will make you more efficient and how to properly manage your server. To check out the full guide head on over to the CVG Website.
"Winners don't do losing
Remember, a good loser is patient, grateful and quick to congratulate their opponent. But enough of that crazy talk. If all else fails, use good, old-fashioned psychology to yank success from the jaws of defeat. It's usually obvious if you're on a team of losers, giving you plenty of time to jump ship to the winning side. If auto-balance isn't your friend, it's time for more... direct methods. Even as Scary Voice booms your failure, gloat and cheer about your victory on the chat. If you're convincing enough, maybe the other team won't notice."
