ETF2L Highlander Community Challenge

Posted Wednesday 11 August 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

The Team Fortress development squad has teamed up with ETFL this week to bring you the Highlander Community Challenge. What exactly is Highlander I hear you ask? It's a 6v6 game mode, where one of each class is played. The maps are much more familiar to public players, for example the popular payload maps such as pl_badwater or the new pl_hightower will be played. These maps tend to be more suited for gamers of all skill levels. So if you are someone who plays Team Fortress 2 and have some friends with nothing better to do in the coming weeks, this event is definitely worth checking out.

Plus Valve has announced that anyone who participates in the tournament will receiving in-game medals to show off to your in-game friends. For more information on the event head on over to the ETF2L website today!

PolyCount Winners Announced

Posted Friday 16 July 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

The Team Fortress team has announced the winners from the recent PolyCount Crafting Contest. You can checkout all the winning designs at the PolyCount website, and be on the lookout in the coming weeks for a new Team Fortress 2 patch that will make the packs available for everyone.

Congratulations to all who participated in the event.

"After our usual delay, we're proud to announce we've finished the utterly impossible task of selecting the winners of the Polycount Contest. These five lucky individuals will soon receive the unbridled adoration of the TF2 community when we release their packs in an update. Unluckily for them, we're also going to attach gameplay attributes (probably of a game destroying nature) to these items, sullying their perfect work with our clumsy attempts at game design. Anyway, enough mucking about, head over and see who won!

Winners:
The Gasman (pyro)
Tank Buster (Soldier)
Special Delivery (Scout)
Croc-o-style (Sniper)
Saharan Spy (Spy)"

Engie Update Released

Posted Saturday 10 July 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

The Team Fortress 2 Engineer Update wrapped up on Thursday, with the final unlockable and map being announced. Named The Gunslinger, the unlockable glove replaces the wrench and gives the engineer 25 more health, makes every 3rd melee attack a guaranteed critical, and allows them to drop a cheaper, faster-building, un-upgradable mini-turret. Also unveiled was a new payload map called Thunder Mountain, which also comes complete with plenty of explosives.

To get all the latest Engineer weapons and maps, simply restart your Steam Client and the changes should automatically take effect. And check back next week as we take an in-depth look at all the new weapons to give you a one up on your competition.

With the Engineer Update moving into day 3, the first new official map has been revealed: Hightower. The new payload map appears to be the first of its kind in that it also features several destructible objectives - although how they will work into game play was not revealed.

Engineer Update Arrives

Posted Wednesday 7 July 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

The long awaited Team Fortress 2 Engineer Update is finally underway, with plenty of new content to talk about. In the first two days of the update we have seen two brand new weapons, the Frontier Justice - a shotgun replacement that receives two free critical hits per how ever many kills the Engineer's sentry gun got before being blown up (even if it's self-destructed - and the Wrangler - which replaces the pistol and gives the Engie aiming control over his sentry gun. Oh and did we mention Upward, a new official payload map, and a boatload of New Achievements?

The update will continue through Thursday, at which point a Steam update will be released giving players access the new maps and weaponry. In the meantime, there will also be 75 more golden wrenches available to people through crafting throughout this week, and they will be honored forever in the Wrench Log.

Keep checking back daily for more updates, and look to next week as we will be releasing a walk-through guide to all the new Engineer weapons.

New TF2 Engie Comic

Posted Friday 2 July 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

A new comic posted today on the Team Fortress 2 Blog based on the Engie is giving hope that a major update could be on the way. While nothing is specific is mentioned about an update, Valve has been known to hint at them with comics or special features days before an update is released.

As far as trying to decipher the intent of the remaining blog post....your guess is as good as ours. Either way, you can Checkout The Epic Engineer Comic Here and let us know if you find anything we missed.

Pyro Update Slated For Release This Week

Posted Thursday 20 May 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

The Team Fortress Blog has confirmed that a new Pyro update will be released this week. Although details on what the update may include are scarce, from the language of the blog post it appears that you can expect further tweaks to the upgradeables and maybe even an all new weapon (if we are lucky).

In the meantime, the Valve Team recommends visiting Mister Royzo's Fancy v. Nasty Update - a showcase of custom mods, hats, and skins. Definitely worth checking out.

"We're going to ship an update with another small set of Pyro changes this week. Like our previous update, our goal is to increase the degree to which skill can make a difference between two Pyro players. We received a bunch of useful feedback after the last update, and we think we've managed to address most of it, without removing the skill-based additions. As always, play with it for a bit, and then let us know what you think."

Engineer Update 'Coming Soon'

Posted Thursday 6 May 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

Although we have known for quite awhile the next class update for Team Fortress 2 will be for our beloved Engie, a new video on the Valve Servers has been found suggesting a release date could be getting close. There was no official announcement on the new video from theTeam Fortress 2 Blog, so for now at least, any possible release date is still complete speculation.

Either way, to keep you occupied in the meantime, be sure to watch the new Hidden Engineer Update Video Here.

TF2 Goes Penal Zone

Posted Friday 16 April 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

In honor of the release of Penal Zone, the first episode in Sam & Max's new adventure, The Devil's Playhouse, the Telltale team (developers of Sam & Max) has unveiled some awesome TF2 items. They include a Max Severed Head Hat, Max's Pistol, and Sam's Revolver.

The items will be available for a limited time over the next week to anyone who purchases The Penal Zone via the Steam Store. You can head over to the Penal Zone Product Page to pick up your copy, or checkout the Team Fortress Blog for more on the offer.
"Fast forward to now, and doodly-doodly-doot: We're doing something cool together. To celebrate the release of The Penal Zone, the first episode in Sam & Max's new adventure, The Devil's Playhouse, the Telltale team has provided us with some awesome TF2 items. We're going to give them out to everyone who buys The Penal Zone in the next week.

That's right: one week only. It's like the Soldier medal all over again, except this time you have no excuse about being too asleep in bed to download it in time. The items:

Max's Severed Head
It's not often you're given the gift of a beloved character's decapitated head by the very studio responsible for that character. Still, we're not complaining. It's soft, it wicks away moisture in the heat of battle, it highlights our eyes. It's got us thinking about all the other game characters we could be wearing around as clothes.

Max's Pistol
Who wouldn't want to squeeze off a couple rounds with the murder weapon of choice of a sociopathic cartoon rabbit? Probably quite a lot of people, when you get right down to it. Luckily, those people are all well-adjusted contributors to society with no police records, spotless credit ratings and few unresolvable moral failings. They also probably have no interest in playing TF2, so that means more murder-rabbit gun shooting for the rest of us.

Sam's Revolver
This might look like an ordinary revolver, until you realize that it helps a talking dog solve crimes. How many crimes has YOUR dog solved lately? And let's face it, his revolver kind of sucks too. Man, we want to talk about this gun more, but we can't get over how much your dog sucks."

The Great Class Dash Mod Released

Posted Friday 19 March 2010 By: Yourcatch22 | Post a comment

The Great Class Dash team has announced the official release of their 2d Team Fortress 2 mod today.

The mod brings a new twist to the class system of TF2, you'll start running through 2D levels as the Scout and have to switch whatever classes are available to you to get past obstacles. Eventually all nine classes are needed and switching must be done quickly.

You can download the Class Dash mod today courtesy of ModDb.

User Posted image

"This is the first public release of The Great Class Dash. The mod turns Team Fortress into a platformer similar to the flash game Canabalt. The first level starts out with you controlling only the scout. The only control in this stage is jumping, and its relatively easy to clear all the obstacles and reach the end of the level. Later levels introduce more classes though, and in the end, you will have to quickly switch between all nine to reach the finish. "
