"Today we're unveiling the TF2 Contribution site. This nifty site will allow anyone who's made a custom piece of TF2 content to submit it to us, with a view to it appearing in-game. Many of you have been building fantastic TF2 work for a while now, and we wanted a way for you to get it in front of all TF2 players, and for everyone to see that you were the one that built it."

Team Fortress 2 Update

Posted Friday 8 January 2010 By: nothing | Post a comment

A small Team Fortress 2 Update focusing on the Scout and Spy unlocks has been released today. The update fixes several client side bugs and makes some minor game tweaks. As always, simply restart your Steam Client to receive all the goodies.
"Unlock Tweaks
- Reduced the health penalty on The Sandman
- Force-A-Nature Knockback only applies to hits that deal more than 30 damage and are in close range
- Force-A-Nature Knockback also factors in the firer's angle of attack when determining the knockback direction and has less of an effect on grounded targets
- The Dead Ringer now reduces cloak to 40% when uncloaking early, and has a quieter de-cloak sound
- The Dead Ringer also has a 35% cap on the amount of cloak it can gain from an ammo pack

Community Requests
- Added "skip_next_map" server ConCommand to skip the next map in the map cycle
- Added "Play a hit sound whenever you injure an enemy" option to the Multiplayer->Advanced options menu
- Added server "tf_use_fixed_weaponspreads" convar. When set, shotgun & scattergun pellet spreads will use a non-random distribution
- Added a "show_htmlpage" command to allow server operators to display custom web pages to clients"

Team Fortress 2 Update

Posted Thursday 24 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

The first major update since the War Update has been released for Team Fortress 2. The patch fixes a host of issues, including achievement and gameplay glitches stemming from the Soldier and Demo updates. As always simply restart your Steam Client and the changes will automatically take effect.

" Team Fortress 2

- Added an "equipped" tag to currently equipped items in the Backpack and Crafting screens
- Fixed the Heavy picking up his own thrown sandvich if it was thrown while running forward
- Fixed the player keeping their rage setting when the Buff Banner isn't equipped
- Fixed resupply cabinet not clearing the rage and the buff status effect
- Fixed the Buff Banner not working when +reload has been forced in console
- Fixed the Direct Hit mini-critting enemies submerged in water
- Fixed the Chargin' Targe's crit not working on servers with tf_weapon_criticals 0
- Capped the amount of overhealing from taking heads to the player's max buffed health
- Updated the Gunboats to absorb damage from any self-inflicted rocket blast that doesn't hurt another player

- Added some new recipes

Achievement fixes

- Fixed the "Ride of the Valkartie" Soldier achievement being earned by Soldiers on the defending team
- Fixed the "Gorky Parked" Heavy achievement being incremented by committing suicide on a control point
- Fixed several Scout achievements that were broken by the new type of bat stun
- Fixed the "Ghastly Gibus Grab" achievement not awarding the hat correctly
- Updated the "Big Pharma" (Medic) and "Division of Labor" (Heavy) achievements to be 10 kills in a single life
- Updated the "Ubi concordia, ibi victoria" Medic achievement to only be 3 assists"

The End Is Near...

Posted Thursday 17 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

With the War Update coming close to an end, both the Soldier and Demo have each received some great new updates as well as all new achievement lists.

For the Soldier, we have the Turn Pro, a rocket launcher with 25% more powerful and 80% faster rockets, The Equalizer, a melee slot pick-axe, and The Buff Banner, a motivating force that gives players around you critical hits for 14 seconds upon activation. On the Demo's Side, we have the Eyelander and Chargin' Targe, a sword and shield combo with +50% fire damage resistance and +65% blast damage resistance, along with a powerful melee spot weapon. Oh and how can we forget the Scottish Resistance, a new sticky launcher that can lay down twice as many sticky bombs, as well as destroy enemy sticky bombs.

However the war update is not done yet. As of now the Soldier Class still has the lead, but there is plenty of time left and some new special hidden update yet to come (most likely to be determined by the winner of War Update). So be sure to check back!

Propaganda Contest Winners

Posted Thursday 17 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

The Team Fortress team has selected its winners from the recent Propaganda Contest, with the first prize winner taking home 50,000 War Points to Soldier, and the two runner ups giving the team of their choice 25,000 points. Congrats to everyone who entered.
"Back when we launched the Propaganda contest, we originally figured it'd be a cakewalk to judge. You might not know this, as it's a well-kept industry secret, but normally with giveaway tie-in contests for video games, you get about 10 entries. Seven of these are virulently racist. The other two are pornography. The last one, regardless of its quality, wins by default.

However, the recession must be a lot worse than we thought, because apparently all of you are unemployed and have nothing better to do than spend real hours drawing incredibly time-consuming art for virtual prizes. No joke: as of contest's end last night, we have in excess of 11,000 entries—and almost every one of them deserves to be framed on the wall of one of Gabe Newell's castles.

In fact, while we've managed to wade through your mountain of entries carefully enough to select a first, second and third place winner below, we're nowhere near through categorizing our many favorites, and we've got plenty more prizes to give away. So just because you don't see your entry below, don't assume you haven't won anything. (Still, with 11,000 entries, don't bet against it, either.)"

The War Continues...

Posted Saturday 12 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

As of yesterday, the War Update has moved into full force. With over 1,390,017 demos killed to 1,290, 988 soldiers killed, the Soldiers do have a slight lead right now. However, there is still plenty of War left to be fought through the weekend.

While no weapons, maps, or achievements have been unveiled as of yet, the Team Fortress 2 Team has unveiled a new Propaganda Contest. Now you can contribute to the war effort by designing a propaganda poster focused on the brave/cold-hearted Soldier/Demomen, thus inspiring new casualties and feeding our all-consuming thirst for war. There are some great prizes, although the team isn't revealing anything beyond "the first place prize is cooler than the 2nd and 3rd place prizes". Still, something to take a look at.

There were also some new sprays unveiled today, one for each class. So depending on who your team is, the Demo, or the Soldier, be sure to download one today and show your support in game.

That's all for now folks, but there is still plenty more to come in the update, so keep checking back!

The War Update Has Begun

Posted Friday 11 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

As anticipated by the recent onslaught of media, a new update for Team Fortress 2 update has been released this evening entitled the "War Update". The update will be a class update for both the Demo-man and the Soldier (finally!), and will feature new weapons for each class along some maps, achievements, and surprises. The updates will continue you all week long, so keep check backing back daily for the latest details! In the meantime, to follow the update yourself, head on over to the Official War Update Hub.

"So: how is the War update different from our other class updates?

In many ways, it's not. Like any other class update, the War update will reveal three new weapons each for the Demoman and Soldier throughout the week, as well as some maps, achievements, and surprises, right up until the day of release, when everything we've been teasing goes live.

Where the War update differs from other class updates is that we've decided to mix things up a little with, as the Administrator would say, "a healthy competition." A secret, exclusive seventh weapon has also been developed by the TF2 team. In other words, either the Soldier or the Demo (but NOT both) is walking out of this update with one more weapon than the other. If you want your class to have it, you're going to have to fight for it. The more Demomen you kill as the Soldier class will help ensure the Soldier gets the weapon at the end of the week. The more Soldiers you kill as the Demo will help the Demo class get the exclusive seventh weapon. Check back daily to see how your class is doing at the War hubpage — this is also where you'll see links to all the leaked previews of the weapons, maps, and surprises releasing soon with this update.

What if some of you try to cheat to bump the numbers? We'll know. (Though we also know many of you won't be able to resist trying anyway.)

Alright, enough talk. Who'd you rather see get this exclusive new weapon? The Demoman? Or the Soldier? The War starts right now, so get out there and vote with your kills!"

New Team Fortress Gameplay Mode?

Posted Thursday 10 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

Along with last night's midnight update, the Team Fortress 2 Blog has also been updated with a comic strip suggesting, of all things, a friendship between the blue soldier and red demoman. While the storyline has no specific details on what update is to come, it does hint that a new game mode might be in the works between the demoman and soldier class entitled "War". Valve's Twitter post for today furthers the speculation.

The post also states that the friendship ends in one day, which could mean a major Team Fortress 2 update as early as tomorrow. We will keep you posted, but in the meantime checkout the Friendship Comic courtesy of the TF2 Blog.

New Sounds For TF2?

Posted Thursday 10 December 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

Last night's Team Fortress 2 update brought with it some unannounced additions to what the female announcer says during the course of a round. Phrases such as "friendship ends in 10 seconds" or "you cannot hide anything from us, mercenaries" are just two of the phrases added.

While it's speculated that these new phrases are for a new game mode coming to Team Fortress 2 shortly, the phrases have started to pop up during the course of normal gameplay right now. According to Valve's Robin Walker the phrases, when they pop up now during the course of a game, are actually "meaningful."

""So far, we haven't seen anyone on the various forums out there who's figured it out," Valve's Robin Walker told us, noting that "user reports of hearing them in-game are also legit" and "there's something about the way they're used in-game that's meaningful.""

Saxton Hale Mailbox Reward

Those of you who sent in money along with a coupon cut from Gentleman Scoundrel Magazine from our Sniper vs. Spy update recently received a handsome collection of postcards from Valve's other resident Australian strongman, Saxton Hale.

The money you sent has been donated to gamer charity Child's Play. Our legal department wants us to remind you that, in the future, please do not send us money (no matter what it says in the fake fictional advertisement). A friendly letter is enough to get potential free stuff sent your way.

Server Maintenance Tonight

Posted Monday 9 November 2009 By: nothing | Post a comment

As a result of the recent downtime, we have decided to switch hosting companies and will be moving to a new server this afternoon. We do expect to have a limited amount of downtime while the transfer is completed, however we do not anticipate any user accounts or data to be lost. We hope to have the transfer completed by early tomorrow afternoon.

Please note that during downtime, no staff or support emails will be received. Just hang on, and we will get back to you once we have everything back online.
